We are seeking a qualified and experienced Legal Counsel with expertise in Libyan law to join our legal team in Tunis, Tunisia. The successful candidate will play a key role in advising on legal matters involving Libyan jurisdictions, supporting cross-border operations, and ensuring regulatory compliance. This role requires deep knowledge of the Libyan legal system, high professional standards, and a strong ability to operate in a multi-jurisdictional and multicultural environment.
Responsibilities- Provide accurate and timely legal advice on matters governed by Libyan law, including civil, commercial, administrative, and labor law.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of legal instruments such as contracts, MoUs, joint venture agreements, partnership agreements, and compliance documentation.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments in Libya, interpret their implications, and advise internal stakeholders accordingly.
- Liaise effectively between Tunis-based operations and Libyan clients, authorities, and counterparties, ensuring transparent and culturally appropriate communication.
- Support interactions with Libyan ministries, regulatory authorities, licensing bodies, and legal institutions.
- Assist in mitigating legal risks, managing disputes, and supporting internal compliance processes aligned with both Libyan and Tunisian regulations.
- Contribute to internal training and awareness sessions related to Libyan legal frameworks.
Requirements
Required Experience:
- Law degree from a recognized university; postgraduate legal qualifications are an advantage.
- Admitted to practice law in Libya, or with demonstrated and verifiable expertise in Libyan legal matters.
- Minimum of 3 years' legal experience, ideally including cross-border or in-house advisory work with a focus on Libyan jurisdiction.
- Fluency in Arabic and English is essential; French is an asset.
- Strong legal drafting, analytical, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication skills with a culturally sensitive and professional demeanor.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong understanding of the legal, political, and economic landscape in Libya.
