Mission of the role: Join Visteon's Electrical Department as a hardware engineer responsible for designing, developing, and validating advanced electrical systems and components tailored for the automotive industry. This role demands a deep understanding of automotive electrical architectures, compliance with industry standards, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative, reliable, and efficient electrical solutions that enhance vehicle performance and safety. The position requires leadership in technical problem-solving, mentoring junior engineers, and driving continuous improvement initiatives within the electrical engineering domain.

Key Objectives of the Role:
  • Lead the design and development of complex automotive electrical systems, including wiring harnesses, power distribution, and control modules.
  • Develop and execute detailed test plans and validation protocols to ensure compliance with automotive industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, and systems engineering teams to integrate electrical components seamlessly into vehicle platforms.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot electrical system issues using advanced diagnostic tools and simulation software to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering technical growth and adherence to best engineering practices within the team.
  • Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables to meet program milestones and quality objectives.
  • Implement continuous improvement processes to enhance electrical system design efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability.
  • Ensure documentation accuracy and maintain comprehensive records of design changes, test results, and compliance certifications.
  • Stay current with emerging automotive electrical technologies and industry trends to drive innovation within the department.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
  • Successfully deliver electrical system designs and engineering deliverables in line with project timelines, quality standards, and customer requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable automotive standards, validation requirements, and regulatory expectations.
  • Achieve effective integration of electrical systems with software, mechanical, and systems engineering functions.
  • Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve electrical design and system issues to support project success.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance design quality, efficiency, manufacturability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Support team success through effective collaboration, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing with colleagues and junior engineers.

Key Year-One Deliverables:
  • Successfully design, develop, and validate assigned automotive electrical systems and components, including wiring, power distribution, and control modules.
  • Deliver complete and accurate engineering documentation, including schematics, test plans, validation reports, and compliance records.
  • Support achievement of key program milestones through effective project execution, risk management, and issue resolution.
  • Complete system testing and validation activities to ensure product performance, reliability, and compliance requirements are met.
  • Build strong working relationships with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to support successful product development.
  • Contribute to at least one improvement initiative focused on engineering processes, product quality, innovation, or operational efficiency.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in automotive electrical system design and development, preferably within a Tier 1 supplier or OEM environment.
  • Extensive experience in automotive electrical system design, wiring harness development, power distribution architecture, and electrical schematics design.
  • Strong expertise in electrical system validation, testing, diagnostic methodologies, troubleshooting techniques, root cause analysis, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Proven knowledge of vehicle network protocols, including CAN, LIN, and FlexRay.
  • Hands-on experience with automotive simulation and validation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink and CANoe.
  • Demonstrated expertise in automotive electrical standards and regulatory compliance, including ISO 26262 and other relevant industry standards.
  • Solid understanding of automotive manufacturing processes, quality control systems, and product development lifecycles.
  • Strong project management capabilities with a proven track record of leading complex engineering projects from concept through production.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience, including mentoring, coaching, and developing engineering teams.
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and program management teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to identify issues, drive corrective actions, and deliver robust engineering solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use AI in day-to-day work.
  • Good written and verbal English communication skills.
